Sourabhee Debbarmas non-Indian looks Sourabhee Debbarma, the first girl to win Indian Idol in its four years, feels her ‘non-Indian’ looks will keep her from getting a role in an Indian TV show. The singer came to Mumbai not only to participate in Indian Idol, but also to try getting a role in a TV serial.

She said, “I’ve got eyes that give me a Chinese sort of look. And other people in India also treat us as if we are different. When I filled in the form for Indian Idol, I told my father that I don’t know how far I will go but I would also try to get a role in some serial.

But then I thought: whose sister’s or daughter’s role would I be given? My looks are so different. My father told me not to worry; he said I would get a ‘kaamwali’ ka role at least! I do look different. That is why is say I look non-Indian.”

Meanwhile, she has finished recording her debut album. “The album has been recorded. It’s called ‘Meharbaan’ and we have even shot a video for a song. There are eight tracks in total. Of them, 6 are remixed and 2 were done especially for me. I hope the audience likes the songs.” However, she hasn’t received any singing offers from Bollywood yet.
