A Surprise Twist From Joss Whedon's New Show Dollhouse

June 10, 2008 |16:06 | General | Midnight Shows | Tv news  By : Team X

Welcome back to another spoileriffic week. We have a new clip from Wall-E that explains a lot more about how the robots operate. And a new review of the Incredible Hulk gives away more of the origins of two of the Hulk's biggest foes. We also found out what was really going on in the most confusing clip from Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse, and what to expect in Lost season five. There's also spoilery Battlestar footage, and some hints about Middleman and Doctor Who. Spoilers are for lovers.

Incredible Hulk:

When the Hulk first appears (after the credits sequence that retells his origin) he's in the shadows, attacking thugs and soldiers in a Brazilian slum like a lurking monster. He says his first words: "Leave me alone." And then his tired, weathered face appears out of the shadows, and he escapes, jumping all the way to Guatemala.

Soon afterwards, Banner is back in the U.S. searching for a cure for his condition. Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth) gets only a low dose of the super-solider serum from General Ross, and becomes obsessed with seeking higher doses and more power, as his mental state begins to break down. Meanwhile, Banner discovers that trusting "Mr. Blue," aka Sam Sterns, wasn't the best decision. (Sterns is supposedly helping to cure Banner, but is destined to become The Leader, the Hulk's arch-enemy. He also helps Blonsky get a bigger dose of serum, turning him into the Abomination.)

The 20 minute fight between the Hulk and Blonsky's Abomination is unbelievably awesome, but at its core The Incredible Hulk is a love story between Bruce and Betty.

Held at the New York City Public Library, the CFDA Awards featured appearances by the likes of Victoria Beckham, Eva Longoria, and Hilary Duff, among many others.

Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham brought her fashion A-game, showing up in a frilly one-shoulder black-with-hearts thigh-length dress as she posed for the paparazzi.

Keeping things a little more toned-down, Eva Longoria (with hubby Tony Parker) sported a cleavage-enhancing pink dress with white beaded accents around the neckline, and a pair of pointed-toe heels.

And “War, Inc.” starlet Hilary Duff looked blindingly beautiful in a very sparkly purple scoopneck knee-length dress along with a pair of muted lilac heels and a pulled-back hairdo.

Lindsay Lohan's Fetish For Boyfriend-Stealing Strikes Yet Again

May 15, 2008 |13:00 | General | Midnight Shows | Tv news  By : Team X

When it comes to the art of stealing boyfriends, no one does it better than Lindsay Lohan. As Star reports in their current issue, the blood-sucking barer of flesh successfully seduced her former slim fast buddy Nicole Richie’s fiance this weekend. And her timing is suspiciously awful, considering new mom Richie is said to be sorely missing her party girl past. As a source tells Star:

”Joel Madden spent a boozy night partying with Lindsay...Their heads were practically touching, and he had his leg over hers.”

As delighted as we are that recent gossip about Lohan has involved nudity and boys rather than drugs and DUIs, her fetish for robbing frenemies of their boyfriends is a long-standing Lohanism. We look back at some of her most classic crimes of passion after the jump.

'Sex'-y Kim Cattrall steps into Rudyard Kipling's 'My Boy Jack'

April 18, 2008 |17:12 | General | Midnight Shows | Prime Time Show | Tv news  By : Team X

In just three weeks, Kim Cattrall had to transform herself from an early-20th- century American wife living in Britain for one movie to the sexy and scintillating Samantha Jones living it up in Manhattan for another.

First Cattrall was shooting in Dublin for the PBS "Masterpiece Classic" film "My Boy Jack," playing Rudyard Kipling's wife, Carrie, and soon after stepped back into the sky-high heels of Jones for "Sex and the City: The Movie."

"It was definitely a challenging transition," Cattrall told The News. "But I was thrilled that after being so contained to have so much fun and be outrageous and laugh and enjoy myself. We've come a long way since the 20th century."

"My Boy Jack," premiering Sunday at 9 on PBS, tells the true story of author Kipling (played by David Haig) and his family during World War I. Kipling's son Jack, (played by "Harry Potter's" Daniel Radcliffe) is obsessed with freeing himself from his father's shadow and serving his country, much to the protests of his mother, Carrie (Cattrall).

Cattrall admits it was tough for "Jack" director Brian Kirk to consider her for the role, but after catching her performance in a London play and renting the Disney movie "Ice Princess," in which Cattrall played a tough-talking skating coach, he changed his mind.

For Cattral, playing a role so opposite from her most famous character was part of the appeal of "My Boy Jack," but she also related to Carrie's plight.

Cattrall has a nephew who is hoping to serve his country in the current war in Iraq.

Avril Lavigne: Better late than never

April 17, 2008 |12:46 | General | Midnight Shows | Tv news  By : Team X

In her native Canada, Avril Lavigne is a big star. The 23-year-old punk-popster competes with Celine Dion for Juno Awards (Canada's Grammys), and the press gossips about her life (she's not pregnant) and a recent lawsuit over songwriting credits (she settled out of court after being accused of cribbing "Girlfriend" from the Rubinoos' 1979 tune "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend").

"Girlfriend" was a huge hit; in fact, it was named the top download of 2007 by International Federation of the Phonographic Industry.

Now she's finally getting around to touring behind "Girlfriend" and her third consecutive No. 1 album, "Best Damn Thing."

"Best Damn Thing" came out last April. Do you have any second thoughts about not going on tour right away and keeping fans waiting for almost a year?

I think it could have gone either way. I think it probably didn't really matter that much. You always have to do promo (promotion). I did promo all of 2007, I had to go to so many different places, including Asia, Europe and South America. I had a lot of places to go, a lot of TV shows to do, and a lot of photo shoots and all that stuff. It has to be done if you want to work a record really hard, and I chose to work this one hard.

Last Night's TV: Gossip Girl ITV2

April 11, 2008 |12:30 | Midnight Shows | Serials | Tv news  By : Team X

At first sight, Gossip Girl comes across as a junior version of Sex and the City, with its cast of unnaturally preened Manhattan types blathering on about clothes and shoes and who's been seen with whom. It wasn't until about 10 minutes in that it hit me that it's trying to do something entirely different. It actually wants to be The Catcher in the Rye for the MySpace generation. Like J D Salinger's great novel of adolescent disillusion, it is set among the children of the fashionable rich of the Upper East Side. These children have every expense lavished on them – they all go to swish prep schools – and they all have a veneer of sophistication, polished up through liberal applications of cocktails and soft drugs. But in essential ways, their lives are empty; they are loveless, confused, desperate. Meanwhile, the adults around them (mothers who share their teenage daughters' dress size and think that "put some product in her hair" counts as advice and comfort; dads who make their sons get back together with recently chucked girlfriends because they could blow a big business deal with the girl's parents) are all a bunch of goddamned phonies.

At the centre of all this confusion are Serena van der Woodsen and her former best friend, Blair Waldorf, known to each other, and to the omniscient narrator, as B and S, as in brandy and soda or... well, you work it out for yourself. As the programme opened, S's return to Manhattan was setting the mobile phones and social-networking pages a-buzzing. Some time earlier, S, having been the ultimate party girl, had undergone some mysterious crisis and gone into self-imposed exile at an upstate boarding school. Details such as this, by the way, are conveyed by that omniscient narrator, who is the Gossip Girl of the title. GG is the nom de keyboard of the person who runs a fervently followed website devoted to documenting the party-going and rivalries of New York's jeunesse dorée. GG knows everybody, sees everything, and yet manages to remain both completely anonymous and, with her know-all intonation, terminally irritating.
