Rock band Jane's Addiction said Monday it has parted ways with its latest bass player, former Guns N' Roses member Duff McKagan, five months after announcing his addition to the oft-vacated post.

McKagan, 46, performed a few concerts with the band, and worked on new material for its first album in seven years, but musical differences cut short his tenure.

"Hey we wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record," the band said via email. "We love the songs we worked on with him -- and the gigs were a blast -- but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best.

Another crucial member of the Young Money crew will be in the house next Sunday during the MTV Video Music Awards. The crew's resident bad girl, Nicki Minaj, will give her first-ever televised solo performance during the pre-show of the big event. The festivities kick off at 8 p.m. (live ET/ tape delayed PT) on September 12, with Minaj warming up the party with a performance of her hit single, "Your Love."And starting on Tuesday (September 7), Minaj will kick off a Twitter contest in which 10 fans will win a front-row seat to watch her performance.

Considering the perfect mix of music and entertainment that the show offers, one is inclined to think that it is the latter. Just like the IPL was immensely interesting and popular, despite not being cricket in the true sense of the term, Indian Idol  is also extremely entertaining despite being not just music.

This in a way sums up this week's dose of what is arguably the nation's most popular musical talent hunt show. You could not take your eyes off the show, at the same time after it got over you did wonder whether you watched a pre-recorded and carefully edited serial or raw footage of a live show!

Overall it was a musical week with the contestants singing the best of Pritam numbers. It was entertaining to have Pritam on the show and also see him mentoring the contestants.

American Idol presenter Ryan Seacrest has revealed that he is backing Justin Bieber as a replacement for Simon Cowell on next year’s season.

Simon will be leaving the show to concentrate on his new American X Factor series and Seacrest thinks that bosses should bring in someone much younger to connect with the teenage audience.It’s gonna be different because there’s going to be an empty chair at the end of that panel,” host Ryan Seacrest told MTV news. “I’m not quite sure who’s going into that chair, so it’s a big [decision].”

“I would want a much younger, thinner, more charming Simon,” he says. After the reporter suggested ‘Baby’ singer Justin Bieber. Seacrest exclaimed, “Bieber — he’s the guy!”

The German city played host to this year's ceremony, where Beyonce notched up a hat-trick of wins and performed her single Sweet Dreams.  She won Best Female, Best Song for Halo and Best Video for Single Ladies. Her husband, Jay-Z, won Best Urban.

Lady GaGa was named Best New Act and the winner of the MTV Push Award for up-and-coming talent went to British singer Pixie Lott.  U2 won Best Live Act and performed a free gig at the Brandenburg Gate to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. However, the event was marred by complaints from fans who had turned up without tickets in the hope of seeing the band perform, only to find a six-foot high wall erected around the site.

It is my lot in life that I talk to Megan Fox. (I know, shed a tear ...) When I sat down with Megan recently, I decided for a reason that still baffles me that I needed to hear her sing.

Maybe it was the mere fact of sitting in the same room with the sultry "Jennifer's Body" star for an hour.

Maybe I was wound up from everything we'd already discussed — her on-set makeout sessions with Amanda Seyfried, the semi-nude photos of Fox that hit the Web during production — and I needed to shift gears.

Taylor Swift has recorded a version of "Tonight," a classic song from the Broadway musical, West Side Story, for MTV's Video Music Awards. Swift's rendition will be combined with other performances by Cobra Starship, Katy Perry, Russell Brand and Ne-Yo.

The ceremony will take place Sept. 13 in New York City. "My version of 'Tonight' was pretty theatrical because I listened to the song and I heard the song and I'm just like, 'There's no way to do this and not play it up,'" Swift told MTV News. She is nominated for best female video for "You Belong With Me."

Lady Gaga has been added to the bill at the MTV Video Music Awards. The Poker Face singer - who is up for nine of the Moonmen trophies herself - will perform a single from her album

The Fame at the ceremony in New York on September 13. She said: "I'm simply gutted to be both a performer and nominee at the 2009 VMAs, in fact, I'm so happy, I could die."

When it comes to Lady Gaga’s personal style, like to think we’re pretty un-shockable - but that was until we spotted her latest new accessory.  We barely raised an eyebrow at the exploding bustier, the Kermit jacket or the ice cream cone hair, but we must admit we spluttered on our morning muesli at the, um… willy.

Yup, you read that right.  New footage of the singer playing the recent Glastonbury festival has popped up on the internet and in one provocative move - which is accompanied by an up-the-skirt shot (don’t you just love amateur film makers?) - it appears as if Lady is rocking much more in her undies than she should be.

Of course, it could just be that Gaga got her knickers in a twist and it resulted in an unsightly bulge - but that hasn’t stopped the rumour mill claiming the singer is an hermaphrodite, AKA a person with both sets of genitals.
